| VILLA AL BAHAR |
Kuwait City, Kuwait, 2006-2007
|
The project is a villa of 16,000 square feet on four levels for a family of 7. In addition to its size the complexity is a result of the strict separation of formal spaces, private family spaces and servant spaces. The site is relatively flat and in a neighborhood of grided plats of 20,000 square feet. The prevalent villa type is a large singular mass located at the center of each site. Villa Al Bahar reverses this strategy of central masses with glass, steel and concrete wings wrapped around a central courtyard. There is a quality of lightness and openness to the villa while preserving privacy and tradition. Walls constructed of a series of glass planes and operable louvers allow for abundant natural light while preserving traditions of privacy and separation.
