| GRAVELY KHACHATOORIAN HOUSE |
Chapel Hill, NC, 2003
|
Located in the historic district of Chapel Hill, North Carolina the site is located approximately ˝ mile form the main street and campus of the University of North Carolina. The 1.5 acre site is surrounded by woods and slopes steeply from East to West.
The owner’s original house was burned to the ground. The intensity of the fire destroyed trees, gardens and much of the surrounding vegetation. The resulting site condition, while barren at its center, is surrounded by dense and mature vegetation. Access to the site is via an easement through an adjacent property.
The new house and gardens were designed in collaboration with landscape architect Michael Van Valkenburg. The relationship of the house and its gardens was of primary importance.
