TROIS
Atlanta, GA, 2008

The 1180 Peachtree Building is a 1,000,000 sf high rise located in the heart of Midtown Atlanta. Trois is an upscale French Restaurant located at the prow of the building, and divided into 3 levels: a bar on the 14th street level, a main dining room with seating for 180-200 people on the second level, and event spaces with movable walls on the third. The first level also includes a remote food prep kitchen with elevator to the second level serving kitchen and third level event kitchen. The space for the restaurant was a steel, glass, and concrete volume. The circular wall on the two upper levels reflects the presence of the circular parking deck ramp beyond. Connecting the complex programatic elements, four kitchens and dining on three levels, was one of the most important design considerations. The three levels are connected with a stair that follows this wall, expressed as a series of curved radial planes of Venetian plaster, glass and wood. This radial architectural element moves through the space in section across the three levels and becomes one singular architectural element which includes the primary circulation, service elevators, exhibition kitchen, screen for back kitchen, lighting, and mechanical.
