JONES HOUSE
Raleigh, NC, in progress

Located on a steep, heavily wooded site just inside the beltline in Raleigh, North Carolina, the 2,200 SF Jones House balances a desire to be part of a well-established neighborhood while offering the potential of a secluded retreat. The intent was to design a house where each room was exposed on all sides to the exterior. The house is scheduled to begin construction in the fall of 2009.

The house is conceived as a five level tower that minimizes disruption to the site. Levels three and four are voided and a large volume clad in glass and glass reinforced fiber panels are inserted into this void. The volume contains the entrance, living room, dining room and office. The void space left at level 03 is articulated as a covered terrace with views in four directions.

Levels 01 and 02 have guest bedrooms and level 05 has the master bedroom suite. A continuous stair connects the 5 levels. The day to day living in the house occurs on the 3 upper levels. The house is entered via a bridge on the living/dining level. One level up is the master bedroom and one level down is the terrace. The lowest 2 levels are guest bedrooms.
